Ride A Wave

Image
On Sunday,  I went to learn surfing, provided by Ride A  Wave organization at Santa Cruz Cowell Beach.  It was cloudy and foggy.  The volunteer helped me put on the wetsuit and the helmet.   First,  I tried the boogie board. The volunteer helped me to get on it, lying on my stomach.  We paddled my board out to the seaward side of the breaking waves. Then we waited patiently for the surge.  When the wave came, the volunteer turned the board toward shore. I rode the wave rapidly. I was having fun in the water. The volunteer praised me and said a good job. Later, I changed to a surfboard.  The volunteer and I waited for the wave to come. We used the same technique, but I didn’t hold tightly onto the side of the surfboard and got a wipeout. Then, I learned. We went farther out to sea, much, much farther. I enjoyed it much more. After surfing, we had lunch. For lunch, I had pesto pizza and pepperoni pizza. After lunch, we had an award ceremony. I got an award. I also got a goody bag, a wate

Moo Shu Pork Bowls

Image
I made moo shu pork bowls for Sunday dinner. I enjoyed eating the moo shu pork bowl. It is very savory and sweet. First, I cooked the rice in a small pot.  Then, I  washed the scallions and washed the lime. I chopped the scallions thinly. I quartered the limes.  I cooked the pork and broke it up into pieces. I cooked the pork until brown. I added the scallion whites and purple cabbage into the pan with the pork. I cooked and stirred occasionally. I added hoisin sauce, chili sauce, and sweet soy glaze to the pork mixture. I squeezed the lime into the moo shu pork. I seasoned it with salt and pepper.  Finally, I fluffed the rice with a fork and stirred the butter in the rice. I seasoned it with salt and pepper. I divide the rice between bowls and top with moo shu pork. I sprinkle it with scallion greens and sesame seeds.  I  served the remaining lime wedges on the side of the bowl.

Sleepover at Cal Academy of Sciences

Image
I joined my scout’s sleepover event at Cal Academy of Sciences on Cinco de Mayo evening. Ms. Helen took Selina, Jenna, and me there, and we met other scouts at the entrance. First, we put our stuff down at Piazza. Then, we started exploration. We walked around to see the white alligator and went to the African Hall. I saw many animals, including leopards and giraffes. At the end of the hall, I saw penguins. Later, we watched a movie called Expedition Reef. After the movie, we went to the aquarium to see fish. We also went to the living roof at night. I saw a Ferris wheel far away. We listened to a storybook that was read by the museum staff. For a snack, I ate a cookie with apple juice. Finally, it was bedtime. I set up my sleep stuff first. I laid out my beach towel on the floor. I put my yoga mat on it.  And I placed the sleeping bag on the top. I went to sleep after I washed my face, brushed my teeth, and wore pajamas. The following day,  the loudspeaker woke us up. We cleaned up ou

Fish -A-Thon

Image
On Saturday, I went to a Fish-a-Thon that was sponsored by the Lions Club at Stevens Creek Quarry. This is my very first fishing experience, and I got three trout!  John is an experienced fisherman who helped me to put bait on the fishing rod. And he cast it in the pond.  We waited for a while, but nothing happened. John checked and found that the fish had eaten the bait. Then he put the bait on the hook and cast it again. When John felt the fish was hooked, he told me to reel it in. I reeled it fast and pulled the rod back.  John used the fishing net to catch the fish. We were so happy. We cheered with high five. He praised me, “Good job!” Later on, I got another two trout.  All my friends Sammy, Jack, Amanda, and Vivian came to the fishing event. They also caught the fish. Then, the volunteers helped to clean my fish. Meanwhile, I had a hotdog, chips, cookies, and popcorn for lunch. In the end, I went home with our cleaned fish. I was grateful for the Lions Club.  After I got home, m
